Recently named as “Best Internet Provider in Nebraska” by CNET, Great Plains Communications is hiring for a Broadband Technician in the Ponca/Wynot, NE area.

         

Responsibilities will include coordinating duties pertaining to repair, maintenance, and installation of telephone, Internet and television service.  Will promotes sale of communications service and equipment.  Supervises subordinates and coordinates employee work schedules.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of basic electronics

Basic installation and repair (residential, key system) skills

Sales experience (promotion of telephone and television services)

Knowledge of digital switch

Knowledge of accounting principles

Knowledge of test equipment including, 965 DSP Dynatel subscriber loop analyzer, Dynatel 573A locater and earth frame, 710B Dynatel resistive fault locater, Triplette

Mitigater (power influence), Fiber Optic Fusion Splicer, Fiberlok II mechanical

splices, Laser Light Source and Lossmeter for fiber optics, Fiber Optic-Time Domain

Reflectometer, and CATV Field Meter per manufacturer’s operating specifications.

Cable splicing and locating experience

Ability to operate and maintain construction equipment

Understanding of installation and repair

Analog and T-carrier installations and maintenance

Subscriber line testing and cable repair knowledge

Ability to interpret staking sheets, maps, work orders, cable counts, etc.

Knowledge of Cable Television testing, installation and maintenance

Ability to interpret Cable Television maps

Typing skills

Supervisory skills

Trouble shooting skills

Valid driver’s license/commercial driver’s license

Communication skills - written and verbal

Customer relations skills

Knowledge of Local and Wide Area Networks

Knowledge of cable color code

Basic computer skills

Knowledge of repair and installation of Internet/High Speed services

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability to climb ladders and poles as needed

Ability to dig ditches as necessary

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as necessary

Ability to supervise employee(s) daily

Ability to install/repair telephone and Cable Television service

Ability to interpret staking sheets maps and work orders

Ability to complete staking sheets and completion notices daily

Ability to drive GPC vehicles daily and operate trenchers as necessary, possessing valid driver’s license/commercial driver’s license

Ability to operate computer daily

Ability to splice cable as necessary

Ability to work non-standard hours, nights, weekends and holidays

Ability to travel for work or training as necessary

Ability to be subject to call out 24 hours a day

Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance

High school graduate or equivalent
